For World Science day, we investigated what types of creatures we could find on our school site and where they chose to live.
We recognised that animals that like living at the seaside would not be found on our school field as they were different types of habitat.
We decided that our school site was most similar to a parkland habitat, with some trees and green open spaces.
During free choice learning, some children decided to look for mini-beasts. We found worms, woodlice and a millipede in dark damp places and a shield bug hidden under the dry autumn leaves. We also found a slug and lots of snails hidden in a hole in the base of a tree.
Some children chose to take part in making a mini-beast mansion, so there are safe places for creatures to hide away for winter. We used pallets, bricks, leaves, hay, pine cones and coconut shells to provide shelter over the winter months
